See Well to Learn Receives Eden Health District Community Health Fund Grant for Preschool Vision Program at Hayward Unified School District

Prevent Blindness Northern California announced its See Well to Learn preschool vision program has been awarded a Community Health Fund grant from Eden Health District, formerly known as Eden Health District to deliver program services at the Hayward Unified School District.  The funding will enable See Well to Learn vision screenings for 700-750 three-to-five year-olds, followed by professional optometry exams on board the See Well to Learn Eye Bus and provision of no-cost prescription glasses for students who need them, follow-up vision testing, connection to accessible pediatric ophthalmologists for children with more serious eye issues and a “Glasses Are Cool” party for families of kids who receive glasses. “This program represents the type of local community impact programing we offer through our Community Health Fund Grant Program” stated Dev Mahadevan, Eden Health District’s CEO. “With its proven impact for preschoolers, we are pleased to provide essential healthcare services to the children of Hayward Unified School District through our partnership with See Well to Learn and Prevent Blindness Northern California.”

“Preschool is a critical time when undiagnosed vision issues can often be corrected, enabling 3rd grade reading proficiency, kindergarten readiness and improved lifetime outcomes for these children”, said Seth Schalet, CEO of Prevent Blindness Northern California. Schalet continued, “Eden Health District is a wonderful partner and we have had a long-standing relationship with Hayward Unified School District and look forward to extending our close collaboration helping them ensure all preschool children have the opportunity to reach their full potential.”
